Welcome to Fencing

A bit of history…

Fencing is sometimes called a “western martial art”. Anyone can learn how to fence. It has been said that it only takes a half dozen lessons to learn how to fence, but it takes a lifetime to master it.

This Olympic sport originated from combative sword-fighting, and later dueling to defend one’s honor. Dueling was outlawed during the 1800s in favour of turning it into a sport with protective gear, referees and rules of the game.

Fencing can be a lot of fun at the recreational level. Participants can develop further to become competitive athletes. This challenging sport develops fast footwork, quick reflexes, explosive movements, strategic thinking and intense cardiovascular training.

Fencers from our club have become competitive athletes at local, provincial, national and international levels.
